I have been walking with the Lord for a decade now and, I could not imagine my life without Him. Literally, a feeling of hopelessness, anxiety and confusion hits me like a ton of bricks when I do. I don’t do it often because it brings a sinking feeling in my gut but, I believe it could be a facet of the fear of the Lord. Have you pondered what life would look like without Jesus? Does it immediately impact you? Fear is a substance that is always looking to take over your life. Just think about moments when fear has affected you. When I think about worst case scenarios it hits me almost immediately and it effects my body, my mind and my outlook on life.
Much like fear is a substance so is faith. (Hebrews 11) The Bible says in the last days people would faint from fear. It is all around us and those who follow Jesus should be on guard for this tool that enemy constantly tries to use. Paul writes to the Ephesians to take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and to stand firm. With the belt of truth fastened, breastplate of righteousness, shoes for the readiness to give the gospel and in verse 16 Paul says, “In all circumstances to take up the shield of Faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.” It sounds crazy but we have all been sitting down just having a good time when fear comes flying at you from nowhere it seems. Moments like that is when our faith stands to face it.
We are on earth to be light and salt. To bring out the colors and flavors of God. Carefree in the care of God. Ones that are shining brightly in a perverse and wicked generation. Ones not paralyzed, fainting in fear but are full of faith with our eyes fixed on Him and Him alone.
How do we do that?
A couple things that have kept my faith vibrant is constantly asking the question…
“What am I feeding on?”
It is so important to examine what you are feeding yourself on! Paul would tell the Galatians “examine yourself. Make sure you are in the Faith.” He would also pen down “Think on these things. Things of the spirit and not the flesh. Things that are holy and just and noble.” Remind yourself that your life is not your own. Use the Bible as a way of communing and feeding yourself on the things of God. The beautiful thing is that He has given us Holy Spirit. He is there to remind you of all these truths. He lives and abides in you. Those who have put their faith in the work of Jesus have a new spirit, a guaranteed to our eternal inheritance. Holy Spirit is a helper who teaches and reminds and also convicts and guides us. “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God” Be one that feeds on His word. Sit with it. Meditate on it. In other words, mull over truths about God until it becomes part of your life.
For example, Matthew 11:29 says “take my yoke and learn from me for I am meek and lowly in heart” He is lowly. I want to be lowly and meek. Lord make me lowly and humble. Teach me how to be humble. He will give you moments that highlight this in your day. It has been a beautiful journey to walk into truth and see how those truths have transformed my life. Christianity is not a service you go to or a worship moment, but a life laid down and given over to him.
“I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me, and the life I live in the body I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me.” Galatians 2:20
Another follow up questions I ask frequently is “What am I looking upon?”
The eyes are so important, and we should guard them. before I go on, this seems like a good spot to stop to explain the eyes with another blog! Hope this brings encouragement and a push in your life to feed on Him!
DO IT! Set a time and a place and meet with him! LET HIM have your whole life. Give him those dreams, those fears, those joys. Give it to him. Let him lead and guide you. He is the best leader. He is beautiful. He wants communion and connection with you.
